The size of the publication has to be exactly the same as the final trimmed size of the product. Bleed should extend 5 mm over the trimming line. For the page-size and smaller advertisements it is necessary to leave bleeds on all sides. The publication should not contain any technical information (title, date, crop marks, etc.)
For editions with saddle stiched type of binding («Sem’ dney tv-programma») :
It is imperative that you shouldn’t position text or other essential elements (e.g. logos) closer than 5 mm fr om the all page edges.
For perfectbound editions («Karavan istoriy», «Collection Karavan Istoriy») :
Please, remember not position all assential elements closer than 10 mm from the perfect binding (at the left or on the right) and 5 mm from the top and bottom. Side gluing reduces the usable page area by around 5 mm starting from the spine. With perfectbound products («Karavan Istoriy», «Collection Karavan Istoriy») the effect of the spine has to be taken into account for text that crosses the double-page spread. In normal cases a 5 + 5 mm margin is sufficient. With perfectbound products the effect of side gluing has to be taken into account with the inside covers and on the first and last pages of the contents. Side gluing reduces the usable page area by around 4 mm starting from the spine.
2. Minimal size of a font and line thickness
According to requirements of a printing house the sizes of a font should be not less values specified below.
At non-observance of these values qualitative reproduction of advertising is not guaranteed.
2.1 The black color on a large area
To obtain a large area of deep black color (a large text or a fills) is recommended to use a composite black color (for example, C60-M40-Y40-K98) to avoid possible marriage at the press (the effect of «plucking»).
2.2 Black text with use of color components
At use in material the fine black text is not recommended application of compound black color because of possible paints misregister (within the lim its of polygraphic norms).
2.3 Negative text (white text)
Depending on the web width, paper weight, paper quality, etc. the web offset process might have dimensional changes in a paper. The dimensional changes of the paper can cause misspass in press. This problem appears especially clearly, when a small size, white text is used on a 4 colour image or an multicolour element. The best result will be reached, if you pay attention to the following recommendations when using white text on 4 colour surface:
Avoid the use of smaller font size than 7 pt
• Avoid to use of antikva (serif) font
• Prefer bold typefaces.
2.4 Line thickness
Don’t use «hairlines» when specifying the thickness of lines. The true thickness of hairlines varies depending on the software used and the printing resolution. Specify line thickness either in points or in millimetres. We do not recommend the use of thin lines with half tones or many colours. The minimum thickness of negative lines is 1 point
The smallest recommended lines thickness are:
B/w — 0,3 pt
Colour — 0,7 pt
White on colour background — 0,75 pt
PH «Seven Days» recommends the use of Adobe Type 1 or Open Type fonts.
Avoid font problems
If you make a PostScript file, include all the fonts that you use. Convert fonts in EPS files into paths (Adobe Illustrator).
If you use ATM Deluxe to manage fonts, check in the program settings that font substitution is not on. When substitution is on, ATM replaces any font your system lacks with an MM font.
Don´t use so-called system fonts. They vary slightly in different operating systems and might cause erroneous word division in texts, even in PDF files.
Don´t ever use «fast buttons» in software when changing a font to italics, bold, underlined, shaded or transparent. Changes made with fast buttons behave differently depending on fonts or RIP. To avoid these problems, always use genuine fonts.
4. Use of images
300 dpi for color images;
1200 dpi for bitmap.
Total Ink Coverage in CMYK Images
The total sum, in percentage, of partial colours in the darker areas of an image are determined according to the paper and printing machine used. In addition, this value is also affected by any UCR or GCR function that is used. Guideline values for total ink coverage (TIC): 280% — «Sem’ dney tv-programma"320% — „Karavan Istoriy“, „Collection Karavan Istoriy"
Enlargement of images in publications
If the image resolution is in accordance with the guideline values, you can scale the image in publications by 50% to 130%. The greater the change in image size, the poorer the quality of the printed image. If you intend to reduce the size of the image by more than 50%, make the change in the image processing program. If the image enlargement is over 130%, we recommend that the original is scanned again.
5. Colour Proofs
We accept colour proofs for our magazines prior to: „Sem’ dney tv-programma“ — 21 days befor the publication"Karavan Istoriy“ — about 26 days befor the publication"Collection Karavan Istoriy» — about 35 days befor the publication
5.1 Digital off-press proof
Proofs should reflect gradational characteristics of the printing process, have a colour gamut corresponding to the process. On the digital samples should be a label of the type used by output devices, scale of the operational control of Ugra / Fogra Mediawedge 2.0, the maximum deviation in the measurement of which should not exceed 5 Delta E.
Proofing and control the scale must be processed in a unified environment colours (Rendering Intents)
There must be a colour control strip on the proof that allows the measurements of the solid colours and tone value increase of the CMYK.
The solid colours must correspond to the CIELAB specification of the proof appropriate part of ISO 12647. The bottom line of the analogue off-press proof should contain the file name and the date of production as well as name of the source and reference print profile used for producing the forme for the analogue off-press proof.
Based on research and conclusions of an international institute FOGRA, ECI (European Color Initiative) we require to use the following profiles: • ISOcoated_v2_ECI.icc — «Karavan Istoriy», «Collection Karavan Istoriy»; • PSO_MFC_paper_eci.icc — «Sem’ dney tv-programma». ICC-profiles, as well as information about them, are freely available on the websites www.eci.org, www.fogra.org.
6. Material Delivery
Acceptable closed format: PDF 1.3 (CMYK, hi-res print quality).
Elements of design with «shadow» effects should be hi-res (300 dpi)
6.1 Supported software (open format)
Only Mac versions of software are supported. Seven Days supports the following software: Adobe Indesign CS6
Delivery in document format means that layout document is sent to the publishing house complete with all related files (images, logos, fonts, eps files, tiff files etc.);
Adobe Photoshop CS6;
Adobe Illustrator CS6.
6.2 Material enclosed along with the document
Enclose all the necessary line and tone images (generally.eps or.tif). Ensure that all the fonts in logos and such like have been converted into paths. If necessary enclose the original files for the editing of logos or such like.
Supported image formats
PH supports EPS and TIFF, which are in composite form. If a clipping path has been used in an image, don’t use the TIFF format. Remember to give images sufficient resolution.
Contact our technical support via advertising department if you want to send material in other format (PostScript, DCS, EPS).
7. Material transfer
You can deliver material to Publishing House by line transfer in the following ways
7.1 Supported media
At the present time we support the following media:
CD ROM (hybrid format)
7.2 File Hosting WEB-service
Service address: https://drop.7days.ru/
Preparing Material for File Hosting TransferWhen you send material in document format, the document and all of the material enclosed with it (images, fonts, logos, etc.) have to be compressed with a compression program (Stuffit or WinZip). Compression yields the following advantages:
Mac file resource data is preserved.
the material can be assembled into one file.
compression reduces the size of the file.
Closed format files do not need to be compressed. After sending the material, send us an e-mail telling us what you have sent with attachment low-res PDF file for preview.
7.3 e-mail attachment file
We does not recommend the sending of material as an e-mail attachment file. If material is sent by this method, however, the following factors should be taken into account: attachments files should be less than 10 MB always compress attachment files before sending. Mac attachments will lose their resource data if they are not compressed. Use the Stuffit program to compress Mac attachment files and also use BinHex coding (.hqx). Stuffit also handles the coding. PC files should be compressed with WinZip software.
